ABOUT COMPANY
BlueReceipt is an IT company specializing in SMS marketing automation for E-Commerce brands. Their web application is essential for clients to manage their SMS marketing campaigns.
In the fast-paced world of software development, ensuring high-quality products is essential for businesses to stay competitive. This article highlights a successful collaboration project between Luxe Quality and BlueReceipt.
BEFORE
Before Luxe Quality's involvement, BlueReceipt faced challenges in maintaining the desired level of quality for its web application. The absence of quality assurance (QA) testing resulted in increased bugs and issues encountered by clients during production releases. This led to longer turnaround times for bug fixes and hindered the overall development process
CHALLENGES
Challenges | Solutions |
---|---|
Lack of a testing process | Implemented automated E2E testing using TypeScript and WebdriverIO |
Increased number of bugs and issues during production releases | Implementation of automated end-to-end (E2E) testing |
Longer turnaround times for bug fixes | Adoption of TypeScript and WebdriverIO for test automation |
Limited testing capabilities | Automation QA engineer joined the team to enhance testing capabilities and collaborate on E2E test automation and visual testing |
There was no testing documentation | Developed a test plan, test scripts, and maintained automated test scripts as the web application evolved |
TECHNOLOGIES, TOOLS, AND APPROACHES
- TypeScript: Used as the programming language for test automation.
- WebdriverIO: Automation testing framework employed for end-to-end (E2E) test automation of web applications.
- WebdriverIO Image Comparison: Used as a service for visual comparison testing.
- Page Object Model: Used for organizing the test automation project.
RESULTS
- Approximately 150 End-to-End tests were automated, covering 80% of the total functionality. These tests played a crucial role in ensuring the quality of the web application.
- Each test took around 2 minutes to execute.
- TypeScript was chosen as the primary programming language for test automation, aligning with developers' preferences and promoting better team collaboration.
- Automated testing was crucial in ensuring web application quality, catching and resolving issues early on, and improving efficiency and confidence.
Luxe Quality and BlueReceipt prioritized communication and knowledge sharing, fostering a collaborative environment. Overall, our automated tests, TypeScript adoption, and collaborative approach contributed to the project's success, delivering a high-quality web application for SMS marketing campaigns.
IMPLEMENTATION OF AUTOMATED E2E TESTING
There was no appropriate QA process when our QA Engineer joined the project. The developers and project manager were responsible for basic testing. We aimed to test the web application.
The following steps were taken:
IMPLEMENTATION STEPS
Research
Our team researched various testing frameworks and tools and used TypeScript and WebdriverIO. The decision was based on the fact that TypeScript and WebdriverIO would provide the necessary flexibility to create robust and scalable automated E2E tests.
Environment Setup
We set up the testing environment by installing the necessary software and tools, including Node.js, TypeScript, WebdriverIO, and the WebdriverIO Image Comparison Service.
Test Plan Development
A test plan covering the web application's critical features. It included functional, visual, and regression tests.
Test Script Development
We developed automated test scripts using TypeScript and WebdriverIO. The test scripts covered all the critical features of the web application and were designed to run in multiple browsers and operating systems.
Execution and Analysis
The automated test scripts were executed, and the results were analyzed. Any defects identified were reported to the development team for resolution.
Maintenance
Our team continued to develop and maintain the automated test scripts as the web application evolved.
